About Me

I am a machine learning scientist with over 20 years of experience in industry and academia.

The last ~10 years, I worked primarily on ecommerce problems, most recently, developing relevance metrics and collecting human labeled data for Amazon product search.  Prior to rejoining Amazon, I contributed to the growth and improvements of search at Facebook Marketplace, led the data science efforts for the Walmart Exchange (now, Walmart Media Group) advertising platform @WalmartLabs, helped develop a machine learning and data science platform for enterprise at Skytree, and worked on improving the relevance of product search at Amazon at A9.com.  In a more distant past, I was developing machine learning techniques with the aim of understanding and modeling of precipitation patterns while teaching and mentoring students as an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Purdue University.

I earned a Ph.D. in Information and Computer Sciences from UC Irvine under the supervision of Padhraic Smyth.  I also received postdoctoral training with the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Machine Learning (AICML) at the University of Alberta.
